They are fundamental to the delivery of our HSES Management System and underpin the PIDG HSES framework.
Our values are opportunity, accountability, safety, integrity and impact.
Safety is our central value – we insist on a safety mindset and culture delivered through practical, locally relevant solutions because it is the right thing to do.
Impact is key to everything we do – we have a strong, positive and tangible effect on people’s lives, through delivering on our Sustainable Development Impact goals and HSES Safeguarding.
PIDG follows Good International Industry Practice including but not limited to:
We systematically assess a project’s HSES risks and impacts during screening and due diligence to inform investment decisions. This enables us to fully comprehend the potential HSES risks & negative impacts associated with a transaction, ensuring that HSES requirements of the transaction are identified and agreed so that we can then implement the appropriate HSES management and assurance processes. We conduct monitoring and assurance activities to review our portfolio’s HSES performance through various stages of the investment life cycle.
Our HSES Management System has been developed to help us achieve positive HSES outcomes for our clients. We have developed HSES Policies, Framework, Plans and Strategies, Standards, procedures and guidelines.
The 12 PIDG Life-Saving Rules (LSR), which, together with the PIDG HSES Standards and Guidelines, is aimed at helping our clients to manage health and safety risks better. The 12 life-saving rules draw attention to the activities most likely to lead to a fatality within our investments and the life-saving actions a team could implement for control. We encourage our clients to implement the PIDG LSR or similar. Companies are free to add other activities not addressed by the 12. Translations are available in Arabic, Bahasa, Bengali, Burmese, French, Hindi, Swahili, Tagalog, Urdu and Vietnamese.
We have developed a set of 10 Safeguarding Rules that support the implementation of our policy commitments by seeking to ensure that safeguarding processes are in place across our portfolio, protecting the fundamental rights and wellbeing of workers and the worker community interface, specifically in regard to Gender Based Violence and Harassment (GBVH), Modern Slavery, and Child Labour, in our projects and their supply chains. Translations all ready available are in Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Khmer, Swahili, Tagalog, Urdu and Vietnamese. Animations have been prepared for each of the rules to support training and implementation.
To help us achieve positive HSES outcomes for our clients, we have developed HSES Policies, Framework, Plans and Strategies, Standards, procedures, and guidelines. We believe that by working collaboratively with DFIs, FIs, and others, collectively we can improve our impact on projects and improve safety performance. This is why we partner with other organizations to develop Good Practice Notes. We have completed two such partnerships and developed two good practice notes: Managing Road Safety in Emerging Markets, and Electrical Power Transmission and Distribution: Healthy, Safety & Security.
