The [Global Head of Guarantees] leads the organization’s worldwide guarantees business, setting strategy, driving growth, managing risk, and ensuring operational excellence across multiple regions. The role is accountable for product development, portfolio performance, regulatory compliance, and relationships with key clients, financial institutions, investors, and government stakeholders. This is an opportunity to effect significant growth with a company occupying a prominent position in its market and possessing a solid balance sheet.
Role and responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of PIDG objectives and existing strategic plans and implement at GuarantCo under the oversight of PIDG Ltd and the Board.
- Overall responsibility and oversight of GuarantCo. Responsible for development and implementation of strategy and growth initiatives.
- Ensure that GuarantCo maintains and strengthens its rating levels with external ratings agencies.
- Ensure that GuarantCo’s costs structure represents good value for money. Manage costs, cash and development spend with a view to enhancing its financial performance as part of the PIDG group, whilst delivering on its Sustainable Development Impact objectives.
- Work closely with PIDG Ltd to determine the appropriate allocation of funds to finance new development activities; and maintain an appropriate process for soliciting proposals in accordance with the approved strategy and process.
- Work with PIDG Chief Financial Officer on annual and long-term budgets and funding requests to PIDG Owners.
- Manage the business against agreed KPIs, ensuring all reporting to PIDG Ltd and Owners is of high quality.
- Chair the Executive Committee of GuarantCo and lead and oversee delivery of the 3-year rolling strategic business plan. Member of PIDG Executive Committee, GuarantCo Credit Committee, Portfolio Committee, and Risk and Finance Committee.
- Act as a “culture carrier” for the Group ensuring transparency, inclusion, and collaboration.
- Act as an ambassador for the Group externally, establish and nurture business relationships at senior levels with existing and prospective partners. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with a range of senior external stakeholders (including government officials).
- Serve as the ‘public face’ for the PIDG Group (and guarantees in particular) vis-a-vis government officials, actively contributing to PIDG brand reputation and recognition in the region.
Qualifications and education requirements
- Educated to a degree level.
- Extensive experience in governance including having held board positions, membership in committees e.g., investment committee.
- Relevant professional qualifications desirable.
Skills
- Strong private sector experience and mind-set.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure as an asset class and all the funding stages associated with a project development cycle, including workouts and restructurings.
- Knowledge of guarantees and similar products from Export Credit Agencies, multilateral and bilateral development institutions, monoline insurers etc.
- Understanding and experience of IFRS, Basel and Solvency framework, innovative structures in financial markets.
- Responsibility for pipeline and portfolio management. Manage the risk profile of the group and company, including the health and safety performance of the business.
- Strong understanding of debt and debt products and a good hold on capital structuring.
- Knowledge of African and Asian markets and experience of doing business across multiple regions.
- Extensive experience of working in a matrix organisation collaborating with other senior leaders in the organisation to drive strategic solutions.
- Excellent communication skills combined with highest level of ethics and integrity.
- Effective interpersonal/relationship management/stakeholder building skills.
- Proven track record of managing and developing multi-cultural teams.
