About the role

The Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM) will be responsible for leading the development of high-profile or complex projects from JDA through to Financial Close in Asia. The SBDM will also be responsible for championing, developing, and providing support for a specific area of expertise within BD and providing support, coaching, or mentoring to others within the BD team.

Role and responsibilities

  • Directly leading the development of high-profile projects
  • Building robust working relationships with all project stakeholders (governments, communities, developers, advisers, investors, contractors etc.).
  • Structuring and negotiating all the necessary commercial terms of InfraCo (Asia) involvement at or beyond financial close (securing the necessary internal approvals from the PIDG IC and InfraCo IC).
  • Troubleshooting, contributing to and coordinating development activities on projects as required, this could include:
    • Reviewing feasibility studies and technical designs.
    • Facilitating the negotiation of project documents, including supply or offtake agreements; EPC, O&M or other contracts; financing agreements, grants and guarantees.
    • Reviewing financial models, structuring and securing finance.
    • Engaging stakeholders.
    • Monitoring and evaluating impact.
  • Representing InfraCo (Asia) within the project company’s management team/shareholder board/steering committee (as appropriate), providing guidance and mitigating risk in respect to the project company’s operations (including HR, Finance, Tax/Fiscal filings, business permitting, HSES etc.).
  • Managing the company’s sale and/or exit from a project at or before financial close, under guidance from the Head of BD and executive managers, with support from the associated project team.
  • Challenging and shaping project plans and budgets to accurately forecast InfraCo (Asia) disbursements, manage and report progress, and mitigate any risks to the company.
  • Problem-solving and driving delivery of your projects such that they reach Financial Close within the timeframe and budget approved by the PIDG IC and InfraCo IC.
  • Presenting at conferences or other external events to showcase InfraCo (Asia) work and capabilities.

Being a thought-leader for a specific area of expertise

  • Reviewing and providing advice and guidance in respect to this area of expertise as needed across InfraCo (Asia) pipeline of projects.
  • Contributing to or leading the development of new tools, frameworks or processes around this area of expertise.
  • Showcasing InfraCo (Asia) capabilities within this area of expertise externally: i.e. participating in external industry groups or conferences, authoring blogs, sharing lessons learnt.

Qualifications and education requirements

  • Have a degree and/or professional qualification in a relevant discipline such as engineering, finance or economics from a reputable university; MBA or other Master’s degree in related discipline is preferred.

Skills

  • Highly proficient in both oral and written English. Proficiency in one or more of the regional languages in one of the countries where InfraCo is mandated to work is a plus.
  • Understanding of both debt and equity structures, understanding of market risk analysis and management as it relates to financial transactions.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.

Experience

  • 12 to 15 years of hands-on experience in IPP/PPP structuring, investment strategy, business development and corporate decision making in a dynamic and fast paced multinational environment.
  • Experience in infrastructure sector, working with international development institutions and/or regional experience in the relevant geography would be advantageous.
  • Strong appreciation and passion for PIDG and the InfraCo’s mandate with a strong work ethic and desire to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment essential.
  • Project finance experience is mandatory.
