With support from PIDG through InfraCo, KUDURA is commissioning twenty-two new mini grids across Kenya’s remote Turkana County and has densified its existing grids in Busia County. Incorporating solar-battery back up, the mini grids will also support water purification and pumping, security lighting, and other productive use applications.
“Before joining the company full-time in 2024, I was working as an HSES officer on road construction and wind power projects,” Abraham continued, “I was attracted to rural electrification because of the impact. It is really rewarding to be supporting the socioeconomic transformation of these villages!”
With safety at the heart of each deployment, Abraham conducts toolbox talks three times a week and leads daily workplace inspections. With support from a PIDG Technical Assistance grant, he created KUDURA’s current HSES procedures, delivering Hazardous Environment Awareness Training, first aid training, and governance training for the
company’s safety and health committee.
For customers accessing electricity for the first time, electricity can pose new risks. Abraham ensures that electrical safety training – related to community health, safety, and security – is delivered, and that safety messaging is available for households. He also ensures that customer concerns are received and appropriately actioned.

Reflecting on the project, Abraham says, “General quality of life will improve as this project is fuelling economic development. Our lighting improves security at night, discouraging crime. We see lighting and refrigeration in shops, and access to electricity also supports education for students. Importantly, clean electricity builds the resilience of these communities against climate shocks.”
