Julius says, “I have been with KUDURA since October 2018. Before that I was working as a senior technician in a salt processing company, but I moved to KUDURA because I have always wanted to work in renewables.”
Supported by the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), through InfraCo, KUDURA mini grid is committed to implementing high health, safety, environmental and social standards, something which the company instils in its workforce.
Throughout Julius’ day, he remains alert to the health and safety of himself and his team, “I am trained in first aid, and I attend the daily toolbox talks and specific HSES training twice per month. I am always wearing appropriate PPE. It is important that we do not work alone.”
When connecting customers to electricity –often for the first time – KUDURA recognises the importance of electrical safety training. Julius says, “I give instructions to customers on how to use power safely. They must never allow children to play with sockets.” His role extends beyond safety to wider community education, “I help to debunk myths about electricity use.”
Reflecting on how the commissioning of new KUDURA mini grids will impact communities in Turkana, Julius says, “A lot of shops have fridges that are waiting to turn on. There is mining in the area which brings more people here; with clean electricity, the shops will be able to prosper.”
Julius hopes to move into a project management role with the company in the future.
