Co-developed by PIDG’s project development solution, InfraCo, and JCM Power (JCM), the Golomoti Solar plant delivers 20MWac of clean energy to Malawi’s national grid. Golomoti incorporates a 5MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.
“I am from Msamala village, I am 35 years old, and I have four children, but the total number of children depending on me is seven. I am a project affected person who was recruited to work as a general worker, specifically with bees. I participated in the training today to learn new knowledge and skills about beekeeping.”
As well as demonstrating the use of modern Langstroth hives, the training enabled the eight training participants to get hands-on experience of the honey extraction process.
“Today I have learnt how to process honey using a machine. I have seen the quality is different. Honey harvested or extracted using our traditional methods smells of smoke, which is not the case with the honey that is extracted using modern techniques.
We used clean sieves, and pails which is not the case with our traditional equipment where a cloth is used as a sieve. I feel quite happy after receiving the training as I have learnt how to use a machine for honey extraction.”
Fide now plans to carry the skills she learned into her day-to-day work at JCM.
