Leadership

The Private Infrastructure Development Group is led by Chief Executive Officer and infrastructure finance specialist Philippe Valahu.

Philippe Valahu is the Chief Executive Officer at the Private Infrastructure Development Group. The PIDG mobilises private sector investment to assist developing countries in providing infrastructure vital to boosting their economic growth. Philippe has over 27 years of international experience in emerging markets infrastructure project and export finance, and risk management. His experience covers project finance, structured export finance, guarantee products, and fixed income.

In 2011, he joined InfraLinx Capital, a specialist infrastructure advisory company, as one of its European founding partners. Prior to that, he was responsible for workouts and restructurings in Depfa's Emerging Markets Fixed Income team (2009-11), and responsible for Structured Export Finance within Depfa's Infrastructure Finance Unit (2007-2009). Before joining Depfa in 2007, Philippe spent 13 years at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (World Bank Group) in Washington and Singapore, where he headed the guarantees department and was Global Head of Infrastructure.

Philippe has extensive infrastructure experience in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, south and east Asia, and central Europe. The infrastructure experience in Africa covers power (generation and transmission), renewables (run of river hydro, solar and geothermal), and gas pipeline. He has been a contributor to articles in Project Finance Asia Magazine, Public Utilities Fortnightly, Asia Water and Wastewater, Institutional Investor, Project Finance, Mining Journal, International Investor and Securities, and Latin Finance. 

Mr. Valahu completed Harvard University’s Business School Executive Program in 2000. He has an MBA in international business from GWU (1992), a Master’s degree from AU (1987), and a Bachelor’s degree from GWU (1984).

He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
